One small step. The final frontier. There is exciting news in space travel if the Grasshopper, a Vertical Takeoff Vertical Landing (VTVL) rocket designed by SpaceX, can keep increasing its landing distance. The highest it has gone is 250m and landed gracefully despite strong winds.
While most rockets are designed to come apart and parachute back to earth after reentry into the earth’s atmosphere, the Grasshopper is testing the technology required for the vehicle or rocket to vertically land still intact.
The hope is that the Grasshopper will help reduce the incredible cost involved with space exploration.
