The solar plane, which can also fly at night, has begun its epic journey with a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix in America. The flights was 18 hours and 18 minutes long and required no fuel, simply using the power of the sun.

Solar Impulse is considered a slow speed craft averaging at about 70km/h. It is very light, only that of a normal sized car and can fly for about 24 hours.
