Matt Silver-Vallance , a former paramedic, used a system of helium balloons and bottles of water to fly from Robben Island to the mainland of Cape Town. His aim was to raise R10 million for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital. He unfortunately did not meet his targets falling into the sea before the land – but very close – and raising R70 000. He did also get the story across the globe with many different new houses reporting on it. See him in his preparatory interview.
