Amniotic band syndrome results in the malformation of the hand. In comes the Robohand. It was born from the idea of Richard Van As, a Johannesburg-based carpenter who lost four of his fingers on his right hand, who collaborated with a designer in America named Ivan Owen. The two managed with the help of 3D printing to rapidly exchange ideas to produce an effective mechanical hand.
